Boats 16 feet and smaller do use the Sni-A-Bar River on regular basis. The man who lives
in the trailor across the street from the filling station has put the red ladder there for
his own use. He does not care if others use it. But if they leave a mess, he will ask them
not to come back.
The next report is by Jeff McFadden who has a pontoon boat and runs a tour service on the
Missouri River. He has a Captain's license from the Coast Guard.
I've been up that creek as far as the station. It can be done in times of medium to high water,
but is not easy (if possible at all) in times of low water. It would be not unreasonalbe to say
that if there are visible sand bars behind the wing dams you can only do it in a very small boat.
I've never been up that far in MorningStar. I've been there in Tugboat Annie. Annie's an
18 foot workboat on a johnboat hull, draws about 18-20 inches to the bottom of her motor.
Besides depth, it's kinda scary in a boat as long as MorningStar (24') because the "channel"
back there is quite narrow and the concern is, if you run out of depth, do you have enough
width to turn around in. I've never been real bad stuck up there, though. There are, if you've
noticed, some wing dam type structures just above the station, visible from the road. I suspect
that some time there was a modest attempt made to make that creek "navigable" up that far.
